GRIFFEN THEATRE STAGES BATTLE OF THE COMICS

Salem, Mass. (July 23, 2008) – Stand-up comedy is a style of comedy where the performer speaks directly to the audience, with the absence of the theatrical fourth wall. Stand-up comedy is difficult to master partly because the performer is at the mercy of the audience, which is an integral element of the act.

An adept stand-up comedian must nimbly play off the mood and tastes of any particular audience, and adjust his or her routine accordingly. Stand-up is an art form that is openly devoted to getting laughs from an audience above all else… (Source: Wikipedia.)

Come play audience to these stand-up comdedians at The Battle of the Comics at the Griffen Theatre on Sat., July 26th at 8 p.m. Over one dozen comics from the North Shore, Boston and the surrounding area will compete for a cash prize of $200. Each comic has SIX MINUTES to wow the audience with their comic genius. The winner will be determined by audience vote.

“Last years event, The Battle of the Improv, was a smash hit with a sold out audience. This year, we will up the ante with a cash prize,” says the Griffen’s Artistic Director, Erik Rodenhiser.

Comedians range from amateurs to seasoned veterans, but only one will win!

Videos should be suitable to be posted online in forums such as MySpace TV, YouTube, etc. The video should use the best film techniques to showcase the story of an entrepreneur – to show the story of what odds this person has overcome, what impact they have had on the world, and how they’ve managed to achieve their goals. Profiled entrepreneurs should be engaging in for-profit, sustainable and ethical business practices.

Misc. Odds and Ends

It seems like I have been spending a lot of time going to funerals lately. You can always learn things such as not putting off what you should do. The last person’s funeral I went to, I meant to ask him some information. He was an accomplished genealogist in addition to being accomplished and retired in other fields. This is something for all of us who have projects we would like to start, but never get around to them.

The tax free holiday on August 16 and 17 will save me some money on equipment I was planning to buy.
