GRIFFEN THEATRE SEARCHES FOR LOCAL COMICS TO
DUKE IT OUT ON STAGE
Salem, Mass. (July 7, 2008) – Do you feel like the next Dane Cook? Do you have something funny to say to the world? Are you the office comedian or comedienne?
If you have six minutes to spare and $10, come down to the Griffen Theatre on Sat., July 26th at 8 p.m. and enter to win The Battle of the Comics.
Over one dozen comics from the North Shore, Boston and the surrounding area will compete for a cash prize of $200. Each comic has six minutes to wow the audience with their comic genius. The winner will be determined by audience vote.
“Last years event, The Battle of the Improv, was a smash hit with a sold out audience. This year, we will up the ante with a cash prize,” says the Griffen’s Artistic Director, Erik Rodenhiser.
Comedians range from amateurs to seasoned veterans, but only one will win.

The Somewhat North of Boston (SNOB) Film Festival, a grassroots community initiative, celebrates and supports independent filmmaking. It provides a forum for dialog and learning and showcases a wide variety of media. The SNOB Film Festival, in conjunction with Red River Theaters (RRT) and the New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI), provides an annual venue for films the public might not otherwise see.

Misc. Odds and Ends
The TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund offers financial support to films that explore scientific, mathematical, and technological themes and storylines, or a leading character who is a scientist, engineer, innovator or mathematician; all genres welcome (except science fiction or fantasy). Apply by August 1st.
The TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund will provide up to $140,000 in support of innovative and compelling filmmaking that explores scientific, mathematical, and technological themes and storylines, or a leading character who is a scientist, engineer, innovator or mathematician in fresh ways.
They are seeking exceptional narrative work of all genres (except science fiction or fantasy) with scientifically accurate themes or characters.
The TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund does not offer funding to short films or documentaries.
Past projects that have received funding for screenplay development through the TFI/Sloan Partnership include outstanding screenplays about Rosalind Franklin, Hedy Lamar, Richard Feynman, Edwin Hubble and Ramanujan, as well as many comedies.
