If anyone has any information that they want to share with members, let me know so I can include it in the next blog.  If possible please try and send the information several weeks in advance.

We were very pleased to have Kevin Anderton speak with our group. He is obviously in love with what he does, and his passion is contagious. Those who didn’t show missed a lot of valuable information. We only touched on a portion of Kevin’s knowledge and experience. We will be having him be part of different events in the future. One of his shorts has over 6 million hits on Youtube. Kevin has offered to let us use some of his scripts in future productions.

Membership dues have been decreased for the upcoming year. Regular dues are $20 and seniors and students only have to pay $10.

This meeting is for paid members, past paid members and all who would like to know more about us and maybe network before or after the meeting. Kevin Anderton, an award winning filmmaker, will give a talk on marketing short films after our brief annual meeting.

The Cape Ann Community Cinema (CACC), which opened on October 1st at the home of the Gloucester Stage Company at 267 East Main Street in Gloucester, announced some scares that will bring viewers to Halloween, through the winter to the spring.
Starting Friday, October 24th and running every Friday at 10:00pm on CATV Channel 67, the CACC will sponsor “Penny Dreadful’s Shilling Shockers,” an “Elvira”-like cable show. Each episode will feature a full film, plus original material by the show’s New Bedford creators.
Busty witch Penny Dreadful hosts the show, and is joined by police inspector Dr. Von Bulow and the hairy lycanthropic Garou. Ms. Dreadful’s choice of films ranges from the campy, like Ed Wood’s “Bride Of The Monster” starring Bela Lugosi, to the sublime, such as Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal,” all with her signature running commentary and macabre sense of humor.
Horror fans looking for a bloody good night out this week are urged to visit Cape Ann Community Cinema on Friday, October 24th at 9:30pm for “God Of Vampires,” director Rob Fitz’s labor of love. Fitz has previously worked as a make-up effects artist on such big-budget films as “The Perfect Storm,” “State And Main” and the upcoming Bruce Willis sci-fi actioner, “The Surrogates.” Fitz will be on hand after the show for a Q&A.
On Halloween Night, the CACC will present the H.P. Lovecraft inspired “Cthulhu” at 9:30pm. The “Friday Night Frights” series, however, will continue on through the end of the CACC’s season in May 2009.
More information about Penny Dreadful is available at www.ShillingShockers.com. More information about The Cape Ann Community Cinema is available at

The course tuition price is normally $2,500. The workshops are held in New York City and Universal Studios, Los Angeles from December 1 to January 24. The Academy was founded in Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Film Center on a belief that a top quality education in filmmaking should be accessible to anyone with the drive and ambition to make films. We hold One-Year, Two-Year Conservatory, MFA and short-term programs.

The Academy is honored to be the film school choice of many Hollywood filmmakers and their families, including the son of Steven Spielberg; the son of actors Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins; the daughter of director Peter Bogdanovich; and the son of Kevin Kline. McCoury Music Film Competition

McCOURY MUSIC AND IFC INSPIRE FANS WITH MONEYLAND FILM COMPETITION

McCoury Music Announces an Extended Deadline of October 23

Nashville, TN – September 27, 2008 — Blending traditional and contemporary roots music, passion for democracy and social justice, and an appreciation for the power of grassroots creativity, IFC and McCoury Music have introduced a competition aimed at inspiring music fans to create their own short film interpretations of the songs from McCoury Music’s new album, Moneyland. Previously set for September 23, the deadline for this competition has now been extended to October 23. Fans of the new album are invited to enter into the short-form film competition at www.LivingInMoneyland.com. The winning film for each song will be awarded cash prizes. A grand prize winner chosen among each of the song finalists will be aired on IFC and IFC.com.
Short films must be submitted via the online submission and uploading process on the short film competition section located at
www.livinginmoneyland.com before the contest’s extended deadline of October 23. All entries must be submitted digitally, regardless of the original shooting format.

There will be NO entry fee for this contest.

To learn more about Moneyland, please check out the new IFC News piece at http://www.ifc.com/video/News/Music/1688292610, featuring Del McCoury and his manager, Stan Strickland, talking about the new Moneyland project, as well as the film competition.

Featuring new music from bluegrass legend Del McCoury along with songs new and old by Country Music Hall of Famers Merle Haggard and Emmylou Harris, National Heritage Fellow and Bluegrass Hall of Famer Mac Wiseman, Grammy winner Tim O’Brien and more, Moneyland offers a hard-hitting look at issues of economic and social injustice, serving up music that’s both convincing and filled with vivid imagery ripe for translation on film—especially in the hands of everyday people.
