The Marblehead Festival of Arts invites the public to warm up at its Winter Film Festival in Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School Street, on Thursday, February 12, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. The screening is free of charge, and the doors will open at 7:00 pm.
The Festival will screen 13 short films, the best of the many films submitted last year to the Festival of Arts. The great majority of the films are by artists who are current or former residents of Essex County, the Boston area, Connecticut, and New York. The films display a wide range of styles and subject matter; genres include music video, animation, personal documentary, comedy, drama, satire, and horror. Some of the filmmakers are expected to be present and they will talk about their work and answer questions at the end of the program.

HAVE LAUNCHED THE FIRST ANNUAL
CALIFORNIA ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL
ON CRUSHEDPLANET.COM
The California Online Film Festival was created by Joe and Harry Gantz, the producers of such shows as the Emmy winning HBO series “Taxicab Confessions” and the Showtime series “Sexual Healing”, as part of their new Internet network, CrushedPlanet.com.
The goal of The California Online Film Festival is to show innovative and provocative content from around the world. Film buffs no longer have to go to the theater to participate. The California Online Film Festival plans to expand the boundaries of storytelling and online entertainment, and celebrate all of our cultural and artistic differences through strong personal expression.
CrushedPlanet is an international online community for people 18 years and over, featuring inventive and intelligent content from artists around the world. This is a curated site with fifteen interconnected channels, each with its own unique identity, and all featuring content with a strong point of view. With names like “Turn Back Now,” “Tell a Vision,” “Mind Bloggling” and “The War On Comedy,” individual channels feature content ranging from narrative and documentary, to animation and comedy, to theatre, music, fine art, and video blogs.
Unlike other entertainment websites, CrushedPlanet carefully selects and distributes original work from top artists and emerging talents, while allowing those artists to retain all the rights to their work and receive the majority of fees paid to view their work. CrushedPlanet is positioned to change the web by forming an online international community of adult viewers searching for compelling programming and uncensored creative content.
The California Online Film Festival runs January 9th thru June 2009.

Facing Realities: Dialogues in Boston Documentary Filmmaking
Saturday 21 February, 3:00pm
Harvard Film Archive
3:00pm Riverdogs by Robb Moss
3:40pm Same River Twice excerpt by Robb Moss, shot by Amanda Micheli
4:00pm La Corona by Amanda Micheli and Isabel Vega
4:40pm Filmmaker discussion
5:30pm Refreshments in the Sert Gallery
The afternoon will begin with Robb Moss’ Riverdogs, a lyrical chronicle of a thirty-five day river trip along the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon. Moss’ inspired cinematography shapes what becomes a meditation on youth, nature, and an idyllic, fleeting moment in time.
Bridging the work of these two filmmakers, we’ll screen an excerpt from Moss’ follow-up work, Same River Twice (2003), that includes a critical scene shot by Micheli who had been a student of his at Harvard in the mid-nineties.
Following this excerpt of Same River Twice will be Micheli’s La Corona, which captures the pride and vulnerability of a group of Colombian women prisoners as they compete in their prison’s fiercely competitive beauty pageant. The screening will end with a dialogue between Moss and Micheli, as they discuss their works and the innovative legacy of Boston documentary filmmaking, followed by a reception with refreshments.

At least part of Michael Moore’s next film will deal with Wall Street and the financial industry. He’s looking for information on the abuses that have been happening and part of the cause for the financial collapse. If you have any info that would help, he wants you to contact him at his private email address: bailout@michaelmoore.com.
