Newsletter for w/e 3/19/09

If anyone has any information that they want to share with members, let me know so I can include it in the next blog.  If possible please try and send the information several weeks in advance.

We will hold an open board and membership meeting on Saturday, March 28 on 1:30 at Jim Jalbert’s house. He hasn’t gotten his speakers yet, but hopes to have them soon. We can always watch 16mm films in his theatre if we can’t use the projector. Jim will be making popcorn. You can bring a DVD that you will like to view just in case the speakers arrive. For anyone interested, email me for his address.

This is truly a great time for independent filmmakers with talent. There are a lot of competitions that cost nothing to enter, but can offer financial rewards and exposure. An example is Current TV’s VCAM outreach program. The best commercial receives a cash prize and the opportunity to receive more in the future. More about this is mentioned in this blog.

Remember to go to http://filmnorth.org/ to keep p to date with what is happening or look at older news.

Technology

Technology developed by MIT scientists enables lithium-ion batteries to charge in seconds instead of hours. It involves the development of a faster-charging surface material for batteries that allows lithium ions to move quickly across the surface of the battery. It could be on the market within two to three years.

There is a rumor that Apple might release a new version of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio in time for NAB.

Misc. Odds and Ends

Current TV’s VCAM outreach program. Current is an informative news channel that is very connected to its website counterpart. The majority of the content is provided by viewers who don’t have access to a studio. The VCAM Outreach program, manages the advertising that happens on the channel. Because Current wants to maintain a minimal commercial presence, VCAM seeks out independent filmmakers to make autonomous low budget commercials. Made by the viewer for the viewer. The entirety of the production is on your end. Be creative as you want (within the parameters of the project mandate).

If you are interested in finding out more about the VCAM program check out our website.
