Independent Film Festival Boston

04/22/2009 — 04/28/2009 Boston, Massachusetts Website: www.iffboston.org
Event Details
The Independent Film Festival of Boston (IFFBoston) shows films that people might not get a chance to see anywhere else, films that are both innovative and crowd-pleasing. It offers the chance to meet the filmmakers at post-screening parties, and to ask them questions both after the films and at festival panels.
The festival is a selection of movies made outside the Hollywood studio system. IFFBoston is a mix of features, documentaries, and shorts with ticket prices lower than what it costs to see most first-run movies.
The success of IFFBoston can be attributed to the hard-working, passionate, and completely volunteer staff that puts in time year-round. It’s also thanks to our 100+ extra volunteers, our sponsors, our venues, and our community. And the success of IFFBoston is largely due to an audience that had long wanted and waited for just this kind of festival and continues to support it.
IFFBoston aims to put Boston back on the map for independent film.

We have bad news that could be potential good news for the independent television producer. It doesn’t look like the same old business. Networks and cable companies are looking for more bang for the buck and don’t want to risk a lot of money on new shows that could flop. They could go for repeats of old shows, buy some from foreign companies or maybe be willing to take a chance if you have several in the can that they could get at a reasonable price.

Help Wanted

from Chuck Slavin:

Passed on from my friend & filmmaker Adam Woodworth…
Crew/Casting/Locations call for the short gangster/mobster film “Untied”.
I am a local award-winning director and I’m in need of crew, cast, and
locations for my next short film. The schedule is not set yet but I’m
planning for the next couple of months or so.
Please send resumes to Adam Woodworth,
bourbonfilm@gmail.com.
For a taste of my previous work, see
www.bourbonmovie.com.
CREW:
Boom operator: You do not need to own your own gear but you must have
experience operating a boom mic. Alternatively, a pro sound engineer
with your own gear and willing to work on a low budget film. Pay
negotiable.
CAST:
All the lead roles are cast, but I have a couple small parts still to be cast:
Janet: White, late 20s. One scene, no dialog, she is killed in a hotel room.
Jeanie: White, early/mid 30s. Lays on a hospital bed, unconscious
and dying of cancer, with a bandana around her (supposedly bald) head.
Very brief scene.
Pay covers travel and food expenses, deferred payment a possibility.
LOCATIONS:
Looking in the greater Boston/Providence/etc area. Willing to travel
to southern NH or Maine as well.
The descriptions are based on ideal locations, but I am willing to
compromise. Pay for use of locations negotiable.
Old/Rundown kitchen:
The older the better. Rundown interior. Old fridge, sink, lights.
Big enough for a kitchen table and small film crew.
Dry cleaners:
Small store, older place. No flashy colors.
Hospital room:
Simple scene with 2 actors, one in a hospital bed. We wouldn’t need
tons of time in the hospital. The scene is supposed to happen in the
late 70’s, so we’d need to move any obviously modern equipment (modern
graphical readouts, etc) to at least be out of the frame.
Hotel room:
I imagine I can get this pretty easily of course, but if someone has a
connection to get us in a nice room, a mid-level suite at a nice hotel
for low cost, let me know. The shoot in the hotel room would be only
1 day, probably not even the entire day.

There are two opening night films. The first is “What Would It Look Like?” A documentary that asks us to reflect
